Yamuna Flaherty

Hello! I am Yamuna.

I’m a storyteller, photographer, and explorer passionate about crossing personal and universal thresholds. I have always endeavoured to use my camera and pen with a passion for social justice, a respect for diversity, and to remind us of our shared humanity.

My global journeys began on my first backpacking trip to India at the age of eighteen and have continued to this day--two decades later and with many more lands etched into my heart. Storytelling started as a means to document my travel experiences and eventually transformed into a way I discovered I could make an impact in the world.

3 Facts About Me

  1. When I was a teenager I was obsessed with the movie Baraka and would regularly host screenings of it amongst my community.

  2. I want to live in an off-grid mud house most preferably in South India

  3. My ancestry is a mixture of Irish-Scot and Tamilian.

I live on the traditional territories of the people of the Treaty 7 region in Southern Alberta which includes the Blackfoot Confederacy (comprising the Siksika, Piikani, and Kainai First Nations), the Tsuut’ina First Nation, and the Stoney Nakoda (including the Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Wesley First Nations). Mohkínstsis – commonly known as the City of Calgary – is also home to Métis Nation of Alberta, Region III.

I am available for assignments worldwide.
